A Breakup Note
We interrupt this regularly scheduled blog for the following public service announcement:
Dear Entrecard,
It’s not me, it’s you. I’m afraid our affair can no longer continue. You’ve changed, and I cannot follow you on the path you’re taking.
I’m grateful for the good times, and most especially all the great blogs I’ve discovered since we met. There are so many, but fortunately I don’t need you to get to them. I’ll still visit them every day, and will have more time to enjoy them. You’re so needy, dear Entrecard. It takes a long time to drop 300 cards a day, and I am forced to spend more time fulfilling you then I spend reading and commenting on quality posts, or even updating my own blog!
You were there for me when I had no traffic, helping me ease into this blogging world and finding some footing. I’m going to give it a go on my own, and see if I can fly by myself. I’ll miss you, but we really have no choice but to part ways.
You’re going commercial, and my bloggy host doesn’t approve. You made my big brother mad, and now he’s telling me to pull you or else. Well, you’ve made your choice and now I must make mine.
As for my readers and bloggy friends I’ve made through you, I hope they’ll keep coming by to visit me. I WILL be visiting them, and I think they’ll be happier. Instead of dropping on your little Entrecard widget, I’ll be leaving them better stuff like subscriptions, comments, and tweeting about them on my Twitter. In fact, they will probably benefit from our breakup, since my actions will likely drive more quality traffic to their sites than a silly little Entrecard popularity rating.
So I’m leaving your little box prominently displayed on my site a little longer to fulfill my commitments to those friends I just mentioned, but I will no longer accept any new ads, and I will be giving away all my Entrecard credits.
DID YOU HEAR THAT, DROPPERS??? If you want my credits, just comment below. I’ll give them to whoever impresses me the most. We’re talking like 1000 credits here.
So, it’s with a heavy heart that I say it’s over between us. Parting is such sweet sorrow, but I will live to blog another day.
Lots of good bloggy love and karma to my fellow Today.com bloggers who are in the same boat!
OldWestMom
We will now resume your regularly scheduled programming.

I am sorry you have to leave Entrecard! That is ashamed, I too have found many a wonderful blog through them.
I would be happy to take some of your points if you would like to donate them to me.
Much success to you on your own, I hope it goes well for you.
Allllll right! The gauntlet is thrown! Who else wants to weigh in and get my credits, or should I just give them all to workathomemom???
Oooo…my friend the Heathen Mom weighs in!
She does have an oh so awesome user name…is it enough to win my credits? Who else want’s to throw their hat in???
Shoot I’ll take some credits if you don’t mind. I have another blog I was gonna transfer them to.
Ooooooo….this is getting GOOD!
Tami is one of my adoption brethren posting for a good cause, and I dig skwguitar’s blog. Well, come to think of it, I dig all these bloggers!
Anyone else want to throw their name in the hat?
And thanks for the code Tami. I smell brownie points!
Sniff, sniff… yes, I’m going to miss Entrecard, too. I really enjoyed clicking all the widgets and seeing the Thanks! or Go! Go! sigh… I also had just installed the cool toolbar on Firefox. Why!!!!!
Perhaps we should start a support group for Today.com bloggers who have to quit Entrecard cold turkey!
At least we can pledge to visit each other and try to make up for some traffic
That’s very interesting, Storm. Are you saying that potential adoptive parents are dropping out? That SUCKS! How sad is that when you’re just trying to start a family, but can’t even get there because you can no longer afford the thousands of dollars in adoption fees!
This is part of the reason why foster/adopt ROCKS! It’s very low cost, you get some money while they are placed with you and still foster children, and you can save your hard earned money to actually put towards the child (ie diapers, an education, etc).
Tami did swap buttons with me, and she was fantastic about helping clueless me figure out how to put up my button swap info. I don’t forget these things…
Not to offend anyone else on your site, but I really like reading Sunflower Seeds. So while I realize you’re not taking votes, well, she’s got mine! (Clearly I’m a “Today” site or I’d be asking for the darn things for myself!)
More votes for Tami! Something I will definitely take into consideration…
Ok. I have to admit that I dropped on your widget. It is just habit. I see that little yellow bar and I must touch it. I will miss the morning routine, even if it did take a bunch of my time. Have you been over to the market place on Entrecard? You may want to spend some of those EC before you give them away.

Ha! Too funny Jay! I have a vision…kind of like an insect drawn to the light. Its. so. mesmerizing. must. touch. it.
Yeah, I know about the marketplace. Eh. It’s WAY more fun to give them away. After all, I can’t imagine that the other Entrecard users aren’t gonna be hurting a little after ALL the Today users drop it. There’s a lot of us on there. Sadly, I think the others will suffer, too.
Kristie, good luck with the Entrecard. What I’ve discovered is that’s easy to get tunnel vision when using that. You’re madly dropping on blogs that have it, and not really noticing or reading those blogs. You become a drop junkie.
Don’t forget that there are LOTS of blogs out there that don’t use it, and some are REALLY great. Don’t get lost in the Entrecard tunnel and forget to pop your head up and check out what’s going on in the real world.
What I really mean to say is, I hope you’ll keep dropping by, even though there’s no drop credit in it for you.
After all, I follow my comments!
You have no idea how much that means to me. Thanks Mom.
I think we should start a support group for former entrecard droppers from today. It could be fun
I’m glad you are having fun with your credits. Enjoy giving them away.
Aldon has a good idea. That would put Tami in the lead. Anyone else want to weigh in?
Good idea jayewalking. At minimum, we can promise to visit each other and keep each other’s traffic up!
I am going to look very stupid for asking this question but: What the heck is entrecard? And should I be on it? My traffic is terrible. =( Any pointers are appreciated AND any visits would be welcomed with open arms. Thanks Cheryl
Entrecard wiped out my account without any warning. Thousands of EC credits gone…hmmm.. I thought they were going to let you sell them, or at the very least were worth transferring to someone else.
Hello all,
I am also very saddened by the fact that I had to remove my entrecard. Nonetheless, life goes on. I write a health blog at healthforself.today.com and was looking around on how to build traffic and hopefully subscribers and regular readers. I came across a traffic builder called FreeViral. I have tried it and it started really slow as you have to basically market the link, but now I am started to get more and mroe traffic..the work paid off. Anyways, the link is:
http://www.FreeViral.com/?r=270628
Give it a read, give it a try. Nothing to lose. Let me know how it works. Please, check out healthforself.today.com if you can..may subscribe or trade a link. Thanks.
That’s interesting, Melissa. I’ve been having problems accessing the site all week and I wondered if something similar was happening to me, but I still have my credits and I’m still rejecting ads. Most of my credits I’ve transferred to others, but I’ve got one more batch to send of to someone lucky who tickles my fancy.
Thanks for sharing, Health. I had not heard of that site, and I’ve been looking for some new networking tools to fill the Entrecard void. I’ll be sure to check it out.
Well written “Dear John”.
I feel your pain, but don’t have near the traffic you have I suspect.
Don’t kid yourself about my traffic. It’s dismal. I was starting to have hope, but now with Entrecard going away, it’s dropped right off.
Who knew that lamenting about my Entrecard would be my most popular post. I suppose because it’s a common topic for so many of us, but I hope my blog is defined by something other than this.
But thanks for stopping by. I hope you read a few other posts that are more relevant to my theme.
